The gardens of the island

L'île Saint-Bernard is a large garden : some areas are left in their natural state and others offer organized facilities in order to optimize the impacts on wildlife and on human beings.

At the edge of the Pavillon de l'île, the urban garden is set up for the benefit of visitors who can learn about simple, effective and ecological gardening methods

For the summer, our teams welcomnes the public on saturdays and sundays form 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Due to the sanitairy context, one family unit will be accepted at a time in the vegetable garden. No reservation required.

In addition to the vegetable garden, visitors can discover the area of edible and medicinal plants, landscaping for pollinating plants and butterfly beds.

The harvests from the vegetable garden are processed by the Café de l'île team and the surplus transferred to the self-service community fridge!

Built in 2017 in collaboration with the Centre des Moissons de Beauharnois, the island's vegetable garden aims to promote urban agriculture while sharing tips to observe at home for gardening and eating in an ecological and responsible manner.

Self-service community fridge

In season, crops that are not used for recipes at the Café de l'île are deposited in the Self-Service Community Fridge and available to visitors in exchange for donations. A receptacle is made available to the public who are invited to deposit an amount they deem equivalent to the value of their food!
